On the inaugural episode of the Sports Predictor podcast the Hoops Insider (Derek) explains his approach to handicapping WNBA and NBA. He has plenty of basketball betting insights to share following five years serious betting experience and a high level basketball career. We’re proud to have him join our team of expert bettors.
Derek spends many hours each week breaking down games and match-ups, reading articles, monitoring local beat writers and watching all player and coach interviews. Layered on top of that is the analysis of other important factors including defensive / offensive strategy, adjustments from game to game, player motivation, team motivation, team chemistry and coaching.

Because of my strategy I really like to focus on one sport I really get into the details. I spend a lot of hours analyzing the games and interviews, coach/player interviews. I’m reading a lot of articles, getting a ton of information. So, if anything, I really have to focus on those two sports. I just don’t have enough time in my day to be able to look at other sports. I’m kind of focused on gathering information, doing a lot of research, rather than doing just a couple minutes of research or whatever. So very focused approach.
Derek has posted 56% winners in WNBA and NBA combined over the last two seasons. Overall he has made more than 130 units profit for his followers. That’s been achieved by using a mix of both subjective and quantitative factors. Derek is a hard worker and long term winner with excellent basketball betting insights.
His blog post on why there’s more to handicapping than the box score goes into more detail on his approach including the most important factors he considers when handicapping WNBA and NBA. The Hoops Insider obtains as much information as possible, monitors line movement closely and the reasons why they move.
